ITFC together with Dr Shannon McFarlin from the George Washington University, USA, wrote and submitted a proposal for a project; The relationships between mountain gorilla behaviour, development, and skeletal biology in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park to the National Geographic Society in October 2016.
The proposal was successful with a grant of $10,000. Preliminary fieldwork on this project commenced in June 2017 and ended in August 2017. We are working on more proposals to expand this project to cover more time and wider areas of Bwindi National Park. The project aims at characterizing the morphological variation between Bwindi and Virunga gorillas and initiating histologic studies of tooth and bone development in Bwindi’s gorillas.
